Ready to build a career, not just find a job?

Standard Electric’s STEP Program (Sonepar Training for Emerging Professionals) is a 12-month rotational development program designed for recent college graduates who are ready to gain hands-on experience, build a strong foundation in the business, and explore career opportunities across the electrical distribution industry.

As a STEP Associate, you’ll rotate through key areas of the business, gaining exposure to how our teams work together to serve customers and drive the business forward. Along the way, you’ll build relationships with leaders across Standard Electric and Sonepar, contribute to meaningful projects, and develop the skills and business acumen to launch a long-term career in a growing industry.

What You’ll Experience

Throughout the program, you’ll gain hands-on exposure across multiple areas of the business, including:

  • Warehouse Operations & Supply Chain: Learn how products move through our business and how our teams support customers from order to delivery.
  • Corporate & Industry Knowledge: Gain exposure to functions such as Human Resources, IT, and Finance and understand how they support the broader organization.
  • Inside & Counter Sales: Build an understanding of our customers, products, and services through experiences in counter and inside sales.
  • Projects & Quotations: Explore the project lifecycle, including estimating, quotations, coordination, and project management.
  • Marketing & Digital: Learn how we strengthen customer relationships, grow our market presence, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Strategic Capstone Project: Collaborate with fellow STEP Associates to analyze a current business opportunity or challenge and present recommendations to executive leadership.

Beyond your rotations, you’ll work alongside experienced leaders, participate in professional and leadership development opportunities, and build a network across Standard Electric and Sonepar.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for curious, motivated early-career professionals who are excited to learn the business, take on new challenges, and explore where their strengths can make an impact.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, or a related field
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions
  • Interest in building a career in sales, operations, supply chain, marketing, project management, or business leadership
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed
