Learn It → Apply It → Communicate It
The CareerCore Professional Development Program helps you recognize, develop, and communicate the 10 Core Career Competencies (drawn from RATE) – through CareerCore workshops, your coursework, campus involvement, work experiences, internships, and other experiences. By reflecting on and articulating the competencies you develop, you will build a professional portfolio that showcases your growth and prepares you to make a contributive impact in your career and community.

Why Join CareerCore?
CareerCore turns the experiences you’re already having at SUA into a professional portfolio you can use. As you develop each competency, you’ll build real communication materials, resume bullets, interview responses, LinkedIn content, that let you speak confidently to employers, graduate programs, and professional networks about your strengths and your contributive impact. Active participants also gain access to exclusive employer site visits and off-campus excursions, and students who complete the program earn a CareerCore Professional Development Certificate and shareable Credly digital badge.

How CareerCore Works
Learn It
Explore each competency through a CareerCore Workshop or equivalent training, building understanding of what the competency means, why it matters, and where it shows up in your academic, personal, and professional experiences.
Apply It
Develop and demonstrate competencies through experiences you are already having at SUA and beyond. CareerCore helps you recognize how career-ready skills are built through meaningful involvement in the experiences that are already part of your life.
Applied practice may come from experiences such as: Coursework and academic projects, Research, Study Abroad, Internships, On-Campus employment, Student Organizations, Leadership roles, Athletics, Community engagement, and Volunteer experiences.
Communicate it
Document and communicate your competency development through the CareerCore Portfolio Tracker. Your portfolio combines guided reflection through RATE with professional communication materials, such as resume bullets, interview responses, LinkedIn posts, and other career materials, that help you articulate your competencies to employers, graduate programs, and professional networks.
Your CareerCore Portfolio serves as a record of your professional development throughout the program. As you complete competencies, you will create Professional Communication Materials that helps you communicate your experiences in resumes, interviews, LinkedIn profiles, graduate school applications, and other professional settings.
Professional Communication Materials may include:
- Resume bullet points
- Interview responses
- LinkedIn profile content
- Professional bios
- Cover letter excerpts
- Other professional communication examples
By the time you complete CareerCore, you will have a portfolio of professional communication materials you can actually use for interviews, job applications, graduate school, and beyond.
Students may complete CareerCore on their own timeline, within one academic year or over multiple years. Active participants have access to exclusive events including employer and alumni workplace visits. Students who complete all 10 competencies earn the CareerCore Professional Development Certificate and a shareable Credly digital badge.
